Upper Dolpo Trekking Overview

Dolpo is one of the remote areas of Nepal and it has Shey Phoksundo National Park, as its focal point in the respective region. Churen Himal and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges surround the Dolpo region across its south and east, while in the west you will find Jumla district of Nepal. Isolated and ancient villages, immaculate snow-covered mountain peaks, rich wildlife, wonderful lakes and reliable Buddhist monasteries are a few noteworthy figures of the entire Upper Dolpo region. Culture, lifestyle and tradition of the area have close link with people of Tibet.

Trek to this region gives exposure to the isolated and high mountain valleys of the Himalayan region, all of which resemble with many highlands belonging to the Tibet region. Shey Phoksundo National Park, as mentioned here is the prime highlight of the entire Upper Dolpo Trek and it is the biggest national park of Nepal. Another prominent factor of Upper Dolpo region is the Shey Phoksundo Lake. This is the deepest lake in Nepal and it remains completely free from aqua life with crystal waters. Local area people describe the area as the Worlds’ Natural Hidden Wonders, as it surrounds forests, rocks and various snow capped mountain peaks of the Himalayas.

Upper Dolpo trek will start at Juphal and follow to reach Dunai. Later on, we will precede towards Tarakot and towards Bang La Camp i.e. the highest point of our trek. Then we will pass through a village named Sani Bheri, from where we follow a descend trail to reach to Phoksundo Lake, i.e. a part of the entire Shey Phoksundo National Park.
