Health Education (Remote Village)

Nepal’s health sector is slowing moving towards standards seen internationally. But the cost of using the facilities is very expensive and can’t be afforded by poor people. The few government hospitals that exist are often poorly run and slow in delivering their service. They are located in urban centers, away from rural areas where the poor often originate. RCDP-Nepal has worked in conjunction with local hospital to offer health projects for volunteers willing to help poor and serve humanity. During your work, you’ll treat many poor and bring smiles to their faces. You’ll often work under the supervision of an experience professional.

Your role as a volunteer:

Volunteers in health care projects will assist local doctors and medical staffs. You will be assigned work according to your level of experience. Volunteer works in hospital include: treating minor injury, taking BP & weight, record keeping of patience, general medical check up of patience, assisting local doctors, and similar resposilities. You can also choose to work in the administration. You can have passion to serve the poor to successfully volunteer in the project.

Project Skills Required:

Volunteers interested to work in the health project should have some level of work experience in health/medical sector. Only health professionals, medical students, nurses, and volunteers with similar experiene are allowed to join the medical project. You must produce medical certification or an ID card which states that you are a medical student.

(Note: Because of risks involved, volunteers without medical credentials are not allowed to work in this program.)

Project Location:

Kathmandu: Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal. It’s also known as the city of temples. You can find more than half a dozen ancient historical places and World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu.

Chitwan: RCDP-Nepal has established and is operating its own orphanage at Rampur, Chitwan. In Chitwan, volunteers can enjoy elephant ride in the forest of Chitwan and witness one-horned Rhino and Bengal Tiger. You can also take part in canoeing, bird watching, and witness impressive sunrise and sunsets.

Arrangement of room/food/supervision

RCDP-Nepal manages your entire accommodation, food and supervision during your stay. You will stay either with a host family or in a home base. In the homebase, you’ll share room with other volunteers and use communal toilets. You’ll be served 3 meals a day. Meals in the homebase can be local or continental. In the host family, you’ll have a room for yourself and will be served 3 local meals a day. Staying with a host family provides you with a wonderful opportunity for you to experience Nepali lifestyle. You can even learn to cook Nepali food.

ur staffs will visit you every two weeks. During the visit, we will check on your progress and make sure you’re satisfied.

(Note: Volunteers attending this project will have to contribute an additional fee of USD $ 100/month as assistance to the hospital. The additional fee will be directly handed over to the hospital’s management.)
