Eco-Work Environmental Program

Nepal's natural resources—particularly its forests—deteriorate more each day due to the nation’s high dependency on natural resources. Global Crossroad’s Conservation Project is designed to support the conservation efforts of Nepalese by offering free tree seedlings for planting.

Our conservation nursery project is located in the rural village of Chitwan. As a volunteer in Nepal, you will prepare nursery beds, sow seeds, weed, trim, prune, and thin various indigenous tree species. The planted seedlings grown and nurtured by our volunteers are later distributed at no charge to villages in other parts of Nepal. Depending on the season, additional tasks may include like planting, collecting seeds, replanting, eliminating diseased trees, and inventorying fauna and flora.

Your Activities as a Volunteer:

Work in the nursery includes seeds collection, sowing, mulching, and watering, trimming, weeding, and related works. The nursery produces seedlings that are later distributed for free to local schools, communities, and villagers for planting in community fields. The RCDP coordinator will guide you during the project period. Volunteers’ efforts and contributions can create a positive impact on nature and promote environmental conservation.

Project skills required:

For this project volunteer may need physical efforts, so you should be in good health. Prior conservation experience is not compulsory. We just ask our volunteers to be flexible, enthusiastic, be patient and an open mind.

Project Location:

Located in plain belt of the country, Chitwan is one of the most known tourist hubs in Nepal. Chitwan National Park, where Royal Bengal Tigers prowl looking for deer, antelopes and many other fascinating creatures, are very close to your project location. Riding on the back of the elephant is a favorite way for game viewing. Chitwan is about 4 hours drive from Kathmandu.

Arrangement of room/food/supervision

RCDP-Nepal manages your entire accommodation, food and supervision during your stay. You will stay either with a host family or hostel. In the hostel, you’ll share room with other volunteers and use communal toilets. You’ll be served 3 meals a day. Meals in the hostel can be local or continental. In the host family, you’ll have a room for yourself and will be served 3 local meals a day. Staying with a host family provides you with a wonderful opportunity for you to experience Nepali lifestyle. You can even learn to cook Nepali food. Our staffs will visit you your placement in every two weeks. During the visit, we will check on your progress and make sure you’re satisfied.
